Daihatsu Sirion for export from Dubai: a Japanese supermini whose name hides several different cars

The Daihatsu Sirion is a small five-door hatchback, and the detail that decides its export value is that the name has been used for more than one design. The first Sirion arrived in 1998, a second followed in 2004, and later cars in Southeast Asia carry the same badge on a different car again. A listing for a Daihatsu Sirion for export from Dubai can therefore refer to a machine from any of those, and the VIN is the only dependable way to say which.

Most of the Sirions found in the UAE are small, economical cars bought for city use and then resold. The used Daihatsu Sirion page for Dubai lists cars sold for local use. The cars here are for buyers abroad, and what follows explains how to read the generation, the engine and the condition before you decide.

Small Japanese hatchbacks are valued abroad for low running costs and easy repairs, which is why even an old Sirion can find a buyer in markets where larger cars are expensive to fuel and tax.

The shortest route to clarity is to ask for three photographs: the data plate, the dashboard and the front end. From those, a parts supplier or a Daihatsu specialist can tell you which Sirion you are looking at in a few minutes.

First generation from 1998, second from 2004, and what came after

The first-generation Sirion, known in Japan under another name, was a tall, compact hatchback made from 1998 to 2004. It carried the factory code M100, with a related M101 for the larger engine. It is a plain, rounded little car with small windows.

The second generation began in 2004 with a roomier body and a more modern interior. It was sold in Japan as the Boon and also appeared under the names of other makers, which shows how widely the platform was shared. A Sirion from this generation is the more likely candidate for a Gulf listing, though older cars do turn up.

Later in the 2000s and 2010s, Daihatsu's Malaysian partner and its Indonesian arm built cars under the Sirion name that were developed separately, with their own bodies and engines. If a seller says the car is a recent model, ask for the VIN and the builder's plate, since the answer decides whether parts from the Gulf-sold car will fit.

Production also moved between factories and partners over the years, so the data plate tells you the builder as well as the year. A seller who photographs the plate saves you a round of questions.

Engines and gearboxes: one litre or one-point-three

The small Sirion used a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, and a 1.3-litre four-cylinder was offered above it. Gearboxes were a five-speed manual or an automatic, and four-wheel-drive versions were made at some times and in some countries. The three-cylinder car is the lightest on fuel and the lightest to ship, but it also has the least power for highway driving.

A listing seldom states which engine the car has. Ask the seller to read it from the registration document and check that the engine plate agrees. This matters because duty and tax in some countries rise with engine size, and a 1.3-litre car may fall into a different bracket than a 1.0-litre one.

Look for oil leaks, a rough idle or a slipping clutch, which are the usual age-related faults. The three-cylinder engine has a distinctive beat, but vibration that worsens when warm usually points to worn engine mounts.

Automatic versions use a four-speed gearbox on older cars, which is simple but thirsty on the highway. Ask whether it changes gear cleanly and whether the fluid has ever been changed.

Timing is another point on small engines. Some use a chain and others a belt, and a belt that is past its change interval is a risk worth pricing in. Ask for the invoice of the last belt or chain service.

Five doors, four seats of real space, and a small boot

The Sirion seats five on paper, though two adults in the rear is the realistic comfort limit on a trip. The tall body gives good headroom, and the rear seat folds to open the boot, which is short but usable for shopping and a couple of bags.

It is a short car, and that helps in two ways. Freight costs are lower than for larger cars, and several small cars can share a container, which makes the Sirion popular with buyers who ship multiple units. If you are shipping a group, tell your forwarder before booking so the cars are packed to fit.

Inspect the interior carefully. Small cars lead hard lives as taxis and rental vehicles, and the driver's seat, the pedals and the steering wheel show how many kilometres the car has done in practice, whatever the odometer says.

Check the rear hatch for water leaks, a common issue on cars that have been parked outdoors in rain or washed with high pressure. Stains on the rear carpet or a damp smell give it away.

What sets the price of a Sirion sold for export

The Sirion is a low-cost car, so small differences carry weight. The generation comes first, since the later car is worth more than the earlier. The engine comes next, then the gearbox, with an automatic generally wanted in cities and a manual preferred where the roads are rough.

After that, the factors are mileage, condition and service record. Many Sirions have served as commuter cars with regular maintenance, and a book showing that is valuable. Look at the paint, the tyres and the underside for signs of rust and repair.

Freight is a large share of the total. A cheap car shipped far costs more in freight than it does in purchase price in some cases, so compare the landed cost for each car, including port charges at the other end.

Colour matters little on a small car, but a clean, plain interior and an intact dashboard help it sell on at the other end. Cracked dash tops and faded seat fabric are common after years in strong sunlight.

Gulf-spec Sirion against cars sold in Japan, Europe and Southeast Asia

A Gulf-specification Sirion has air conditioning suited to high heat and local lighting. Sold through the regional Daihatsu network, it carries its history with that network. Cars from Japan come in right-hand drive and with different equipment, and cars from Southeast Asia are often different designs altogether.

Because Daihatsu left some markets, parts supply depends on where you are going. Mechanical parts for the older engines are widely available through independent suppliers, but body panels and lights may be harder to find. Give the VIN to a parts supplier at your destination before you commit.

If the car was imported into the UAE from elsewhere, ask for the customs papers. A car with a clear import record is easier to document for export than one with gaps.

Ask also whether the car has a spare wheel and jack, and whether the air conditioning blows cold. These are small items, but replacing them from overseas costs more than the car's value suggests.

If the seller says the car was imported from another market, ask which one, because that decides the lighting, the units and the dashboard language.

Buying a Sirion in Dubai for export, and the rules to check first

Start from the destination. Find the maximum age for imported cars, the emissions standard, any engine size limits and the documents required at the port. A first-generation Sirion is now more than twenty years old, which fails many age caps, while a later car is more likely to qualify.

Then pick from the listings on this page. OneClickDrive is a car marketplace, meaning it puts you in touch with verified UAE sellers. We add no commission and do not inspect, document, guarantee or ship the car, so the sale rests with the seller and you. UAE cars are left-hand drive, so markets that only register right-hand-drive cars are closed.

Ask for the registration card, the VIN, service records and photographs of the engine bay and underside. Ask who cancels the UAE registration and who prepares the export papers, and get the answer in writing.

Find a forwarder who ships to your port and can quote for small cars or a shared container. Pay a deposit only against a written agreement naming the VIN, and release the balance after the export papers are in your hands. Check that the car is free of finance and fines and that it has not been in an accident.

Keep copies of every document: the agreement, the invoice and the export papers. A customs office may ask for them after the car arrives.

A short video of the car starting cold and the dashboard lit is cheap for a seller to send and tells you a great deal about the engine and the electrics.

الأسئلة الشائعة

How many generations of the Daihatsu Sirion are there?

The first ran from 1998 to 2004 and the second began in 2004. Later cars in Southeast Asia carry the name on a different design. Use the VIN to identify the car.

Which engines does the Sirion have?

A 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol, with manual or automatic gearboxes. Read the engine from the registration document.

Is the Sirion sold under other names?

The second-generation platform was shared with another maker and sold under other names in some markets. Parts overlap in places, but give a supplier the VIN to be sure.

Can I export a used Daihatsu Sirion from Dubai?

Yes if your country accepts left-hand-drive cars of that age. Many places cap the age of used imports, and older Sirions may fall outside the limit.

Does a Sirion have four-wheel drive?

Some versions did, in some years and markets, though most cars are front-wheel drive. Ask the seller for evidence if a listing claims it.

What affects the price of a used Sirion for export?

Generation, engine, gearbox, mileage, condition, service record and freight to your port. On a small car, freight is a large share of the landed cost.

Who looks after shipping for a Sirion bought here?

The seller and your forwarder. OneClickDrive lists verified UAE sellers with no commission and does not inspect, ship or document cars.
